Mini Drugstore Make Up Haul First Haul Ever!!! With Product Review

The day I watched those beautiful gurus on YouTube, I immediately went to a drugstore to buy some make-up items. Not that I don't have any but I needed to get some essentials which I don't have.

This haul will show the items I got from the drugstore. I had fun buying them and I took my time to choose these items. I was like looking through stacks of make-up products making sure I'm getting a good deal.

Shopping as it is, is always fun! But this was really the time that I got so overwhelmed with so many products. Like if I can just get them all, I will! Make-up products are so cute and enticing. Their packaging works! They all looked fancy to me .

Since I am an amateur, I bought affordable items instead of the pricey ones. But I was really surprise with the quality of these items. I intend to use these products to hone my skill in make-up. I really like to be a make-up artists and a beauty guru someday. Enough of my rants. Here they are...

There are five items I'm going to share to you guys.

First is my Silkygirl Lash Prism Waterproof Mascara in Black. The packaging is simple. It is very light. The first time I used it I got CCCRRRAAAZZZYYY with it so my lashes ended up thick and were like group together in a crazy way. I really need to practice applying mascara but I think I love this product. When I applied it again today, I only did 3 strokes and my lashes were looking awesome. Just enough for the day. I think it is a nice item for starters.

I should have probably made this the first item before the mascara. This is an eyelash curler from Basicare. It is really affordable. It costs only $5.90 S. It comes with 2 spare rubber pads. What I liked about this product is that it is surprisingly sturdy for its price. I loved the way that when I used it, the rubber pad doesn't get misplaced or stick to the upper metal. As other eyelash curler, you would have to hold for at least 30 seconds for it to curl your lashes. I haven't tried heating them up with a blow dryer. I should do it next time to see if I can get better result.

Next is this Silkygirl BigEye 2-in-1 Eyeliner Blackest Snow. When it says blackest, it meant what it said. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! Application is easy! You do not need to repeatedly apply it on the edges. This stains your skin quickly and the pigment is solid. Another thing that I like about it is the white eyeliner. It could give your eyes glow when applied in the corners of your eyes. Love love this item.

This is the Catrice Smokey Eyes Set Eyeshadows. The story behind this item was I was in Vivo City before heading to Sentosa with my friends. We got ourselves some beverages from Giant and then I went to the drugstore. I saw this and I was immediately smitten over this set. The packaging is really cute and fancy. I like that it is very compact. It will be easy for me to bring it everyday. It is cheap as well, its only for about $8.50 S and I got 4 different shades. I just tried it once and I liked it! It has 3 powder shadows and 1 like buttery. I will definitely will try it more and I'll give you updates about its quality.

Last but not least is my Sephora Rouge Shine N*18. Now this is not a drugstore product but I included it here as it is also one of my recent beauty purchases. I LOVE THIS LIPSTICK! I am totally obsessed with it. I happen to be a girl who doesn't own a pink lipstick till the day I got this. I just love this product. What I noticed when using this is my lips don't get dry so fast. It feels smooth to my lips a lot of moisturizing benefit I may say. I like that it doesn't have that strong scent that I really despise! The shade is just perfect. It is very light. It just blends to your lips' colour.

So these are my staple make-up. I am sure that these items will be used adequately to support my pursuit of becoming a beauty guru.

Making this haul/product review was definitely fun. I hope you guys can get inspiration from this. Be not afraid of trying out other things. If you have any questions or comments, be sure to drop them below. Thanks for reading! :D

Alter Me Go

As promised, I am sharing the alteration I had done for my blouse that I wore in Sentosa. Alteration was needed for my H&M blouse because it was too big for me and I didn't want to wear it with my bra peeking. So the plan was to somehow make the straps shorter to make the fabric go up a little bit.

This was the blouse I chose to wear that day because it has that summer, beach vibe. It was from H&M and in size 38. I have only used this blouse maybe less than 10 times as it was too big and whenever I wear it, it tends to go all the way down and reveal my undergarment. :((

I already conceived what I needed to do but because I have limited time, I won't be able to do stitches on this blouse. Instead, I needed a ribbon to conceal the folds that I will be making for the straps. The hunt begins but I was not able to find one at home.

What I found were these bra straps that I have. I didn't even have an idea which bra these straps belongs to but I told myself I gotta do what I need to do.

First, I made rough estimations and folded the straps on each side of the blouse. Though I was just estimating, I made sure that each sides is folded the same length as the other side. It was a pretty easy job as I could bring the sides closer.

Without stitching, I used a similar coloured thread, loop it on the folded area and tie it. I had to do the looping and tying several times to make sure that the folds will hold throughout the entire get-away.

To conceal the thread and the folds I used the bra straps to make a bow. I decided to make bows because bows are really cute, girly and fancy. But this was not an easy part as making a bow in a dainty way was super hard. I had countless of trials before I achieved a perfect bow.

I need to make 2 bows, one for each sides and I made sure they were identical and were placed properly.

When I was satisfied with the look, I cut the straps shorter. I had to cut the bottom part in an indented arrow-shaped cut to make sure that the straps won't run or unravel itself.

Then voila, finish product!!! When I tried it on, the blouse looked more pressed onto my body. It didn't seem to just hang on me. It also hid my undergarment.

But the best part was, it gave my blouse a whole new look. I loved the effect of the bows. It is girly and pink and cute and just perfect for a laid back, lazy and beachy afternoon. I loved making this project and I am pretty sure that there will be more altering to happen. :) BTW, I washed my blouse as is and it survived the washing machine! I was so surprised to the see the folds and the bows intact. Though one of the bows had unravelled, it was not that much to destroy the look. I am sure to wear it again given the chance.

I hope you guys enjoy this entry and I hope it gave you idea on how you can alter some of your clothes be it for comfort or for fashion. Please do comment on the things you like or don't like. I will definitely appreciate it. :) Till next blog! Muah! xoxo

Chillin at Sentosa Beach

This is a short blog about what I did this Saturday 20/7.

Yesterday morning while having breakfast at Wang CafĂ© at Hougang1, out of nowhere, my boyfriend and his friends planned to go to Sentosa Beach to swim and relax. Usually, this type of gimik (outing, going out) would be planned ahead for us to prepare. But I guess, most of the coolest gimiks should be like the "spur of the moment" thing.

We went home and I immediately internalized on what to wear for the afternoon swimming. Then it hit me, I have nothing to wear!

Since I've been working out and I tried a diet before, I lost weight and now my clothes just can fit me right. I'll be making a new blog about fitness because I am really into it right now. I'd like to share what I look like before. Lol!

So to cut the story short, I did what other beauty gurus would do.. I suppose.. I somehow altered a blouse without cutting and stitching! Personally, I was really happy that given a limited time, I was able to think of a way on how to solve a minor wardrobe problem.

I'll be writing a separate blog about the alteration I did on my blouse that I wore here. It's an H&M blouse in size 38! Goodness, I was that big??!!  :p Pardon the pair of shorts that I wore as well.. It has became too big for me. I think I need a wardrobe update but not now.. I am your stingy beauty guru. I'll be trying to alter what I have for now. Thanks for reading my post! muah. :D

Make-up Made Up

On my way to become a Beauty Guru, I think its just fair to share my knowledge on how I make myself on a daily basis. Make myself? That doesn't even sound so appealing and knowledgeable like the other gurus. Trust me when I say I'm an amateur, I meant what I say.

What I meant was, I would like to share to you guys the steps on how I do my make up on a regular day. On how I turn...

Oh gosh! I can't believe I let you guys see me like this. Pardon the quality, I just took those photos and edited them on my iTouch. Gosh, I can't even choose which one looks nicer! Its too hard! Lol. But hey, they say if you want to be a good writer, write something you know. This is what I know. My very own make-up routine.

First, I start with a clean face. Every time I take a bath, I always wash my face with facial wash. Sometimes I use Papaya soap for my face. Trying to get that fairer face. :p

I like the feeling that my face is really clean. I don't like it when I take a bath and my face would still feel greasy. I'd hate that.

I used BB cream instead of foundation because as we all know BB stands for "blemish base" and I definitely have a face that has lots of blemishes. :(( But to be honest, I think this BB cream that I'm using actually helps my face to become clearer and it definitely makes my face looks healthier. I'm using Precious Mineral BB Cream Bright Fit by Etude House in case you're wondering. I'll be writing a separate blog for the products I am using including the mini beauty haul that happened to me recently. I'll be including pictures too. :)

Now, this is as much as I use everyday. I'm not sure if I am being stingy or I am scared to use a lot?? I really don't like it when my face looks so fair that I looked like a ghost. In the Philippines, if a lady's face looks like she had too much foundation on, people would really make fun of it, they would say, "Ate, foundation day nyo?" (Miss, is it your school's foundation day?) something like that. And that's awful!

So using my middle and ring fingers, I dabbed the cream on my face.

When I was a member of Mary Kay, my mentor told me the proper way of putting pressure on your face. Be it washing or putting on foundation. She said to only use middle and ring fingers because that's the right pressure. She say it's not as hard as our pointer that could cause wrinkles! Try it and see the difference.

In this case I use my fingers to apply my BB cream. Not that I don't have a foundation brush, it was just that it's an ordinary day I don't need so much cover on my face. Plus, my brushes were just washed. I don't like to use them yet. Not just yet. :p

So this is my face with BB cream on. As you can see, there's not much coverage. You can still see some blemishes on my forehead. But you can notice that from my eyebrow down to my chin, it looks clearer.

And personally, I like it this way. I mean if my day is just a regular day meaning I'm not going anywhere, it was late in the afternoon, no people to meet, I would wear this sheer look. I can even not wear make-up at all. I think, sometimes it can help that we do not use make-up on some days. Just to give our face a time to rest. :)

As I've mentioned, there was not so much things going on my day but I did try to do some wing-tip eyeline when I apply my eyeliner. Is that what they call it, wingtip? I still need some more practice on this though.

Then, I went ahead and do mascara and put on lip color. I am totally obsessed with my lipstick from Sephora. It's my very first pink lipstick! (Huh, first? What planet did you come from??) LOL

Now, look at my eyebrows!!! I know, I know, they are not shaped! Let me tell you that they are virgins! I mean they have not been all their lives but they really are. Shoot! What am I talking about??!!

What I meant was, I have not touched and I have not let anyone do my brows for mmm, 7-8 years??? The reason why is because I don't know how to maintain it. I am just scared to even think of the worst thing that could happen if I touch it. My biggest fear was to have bald eyebrows! But lately, I have been thinking of having them shaped.. I will definitely write something about it when that time comes.

Tada! Finish face make-up result with my permed hair down. I'll be writing a separate story for my permed hair which is also extremely black.. You gotta hear my story.. You'll have your eyes raised! :D

Now, you may have or may not noticed but this look actually was more tamed. I became so crazy applying mascara that I decided to removed some of it. I used q-tips and make remover to remove some mascara stains and I removed the wingtips as well.. I just couldn't handle such dramatic eye make-up.

So this is basically my regular day look. Simplemeherlene literally! :D

I really like simple looks like this or maybe I am still an amateur when it comes to beauty. But hey, I am just on my way on becoming a beauty guru.. There are still lots of make-up style to learn and many skin care to try and different hairstyles to do. I'll be sure to bring my A game next time but I hope you still appreciate what I have shared.

On my next blog, I'll be showing you the make-up products that I use on this blog. I hope you enjoy reading my blog and maybe somehow you can relate on how I make-up made up myself.

Please do comment on my make-up ways or perspective. You can also suggest on how I should do it perhaps. Till the next blog! Have an awesome day! :D

What Pushed Me?

Oh my gosh it feels surreal but I am now writing my very own blog for the first time ever!! Where have I been all my life??!!!

So, what pushed me to do this?
Well, its the long holiday and really I 've got nothing to do but to sleep, eat and watch beauty gurus on YouTube!

Seriously, my brain is roasted by now because of the beautiful ladies that I watched and subscribed to!

Am I a beauty guru? NOT! Definitely not at the moment but I desire to be one. I have been watching beauty How Tos for the longest time. The very first beauty guru that I watched was Bubzbeauty. I was just so amazed by the way she speaks and how she do her DIY hair styles and make-up. I loved loved her voice! As I got deeper on her videos, some more beauty gurus videos popped up at the side of the screen. That was when I met Allthatglitters21, Elle Fowler. She is just awesome! She's like the queen of beauty videos! I have to say that watching them, they kinda talk to a part of me that is still dormant I would say. There was that desire, that longing that you'd like to do what they do. I really really thought they are pretty awesome!

But after that phase, I became tired of watching them. It's only this week that I decided to see where have these girls been to. So I watched them, its pretty much the same but I'm actually happy for Bubz because she's incorporating life issues on her vlogs now and to Elle who bought her own place. I also met Heart of Thatsheart. I think she's awesome too especially because she is a Pinay. I'm a Filipina too.

So to cut the story short, all these ladies just inspired me to do the unthinkable. I stood up, took a bath, made a short visit to a drug store and buy some stash.. Kidding! Bought some beauty stuff and went crazy.. LOL

It was a crazy afternoon. I felt like I was possessed I did all my make-up and tried different hair styles. I also did set up my camera. Dang! Having a DSLR with 50mm lens was a total challenge to me! But I was having fun! When I got tired, I played 22 by Taylor Swift and danced around, jump around and sang along like I was in the video! I was truly feeling beautiful at the moment.

So today was an awesome day. A lot of firsts happened and I do hope that a lot more things follow through. But for now, let me sleep as I know sleep is such an important factor for beauty. So this is Herlene, your beauty guru, signing off. ZZzzzz. :D
